I was given a crash course to this prawn fishing. How to cut my cockles' meat (the baits) the right size so that the prawns will eat it, how to pull the rod etc... Perhaps it's was my virgin attempt, I somewhat has the "beginner's luck" during the first hour of fishing. Just a few seconds after DD went to get my Jolly Shandy for me and handed me the fishing rod, I could feel the tension on the string attached to the rod and the orange float began to sink. Indication of prawn!!! Within a few moments, I "flung" my rod up in a real clumsy manner and ta...da.... my first prawn caught. Haha.. totally exhilarating and soooo.. cheap thrill. DD's friend helped me remove the prawn from the hook and cut off the fella's legs. And then finally dumped it in the net. 15 minutes later, I caught my second prawn when I was helping DD's friend to look after his rod. Darn exciting. Haha....

Apparently, my "beginner's luck" lasted only for 1 hour and for the rest of the hour, it's either some smart prawns ate my bait and escaped unscathed or my gancheong-ness to pull the string up allowed the prawns to escape. Boohoohoo... but DD seemed to have worse luck than me. He only caught his first prawn after almost 2 hours. -_- Ssshhhh... he will kill me if he reads this.

Prawnie prawnie where r u? Keep a lookout on the orange float bobbling up and down on the water. Once it began to sink... you can get ready to catch your prawn.... Another tip was to fish at the corner of the ponds and where there are "currents". Higher probabilty of catching a prawn.
