Brokeback Mountain Review

I just watched Lee Ang's Brokeback Mountain at Lido with Lesley, Weilun, Yeling and Xin. This is my first R21 movie, excluding some R21 DVDs watched at home and also the first time we actually get together to watch a movie together! We have been classmates for almost 2 years and yet we have not sat down for a movie before until now. (DVDs shown on Understanding Chinese Cinemas Modules not counted. Haha!)

It's a long 2 hours 15 minutes show. I do not watch it with high expectation of being entertained since it was an arthouse film afterall. After the movie, you will realise Brokeback Mountain is NOT a gay movie but a bisexual movie. It's a very sad show, however not to the extend that tears will roll. Lovers did not end up together. One was passionately waiting for the day to be with his "lover" and pursuing his dreams of sharing a ranch with his lover while the other wanted to bury their past at Brokeback Mountain behind him.

One of the greatest tragedy is in fact the betrayal that the wife got from the husband. The shocking truth hit Elma (Michelle Willams) when she saw her husband, Ernis (Heath Ledger) kissing with Jack (Jake Gyllenhaal). Eventually, she grew emotionally detached from Ernis after many lies from Ernis who claimed to go "fishing" with Jack. My heart went to Elma during her outburst to Ernis. ....Went "fishing" but never bring a single fish home.... the price tag still sticking on the fishing box and looked just as new.... and the note written by Elma to remind him to bring some fishes home was still hanging on the fishing rod.... untouched....

No wives can accept their husbands' infidelities, whatsmore is a man who steal the husband's heart. sigh.

On the whole, Brokeback Mountain is worth watching but learn to appreciate it from a very "arty-farty" perspective though some of the sex scenes might be pretty disturbing. (It's quite dark... cant see much either. Hehe...) Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger are really professional and fantastic actors. Michelle Williams as Ernis's wife brought out her emotions really well and Anna Hathaway's character as Jack's wife was a major breakthrough from her teeny boppers films (Princess Diaries). So people, got the chance and has reached the legal age of 21, go watch it. Those still under 21... stayed at home watch DVD lah or get your friends to "smuggle" you into the theatre. haha!

Belated Valentine Day Post

So sorry for this belated post! I have been real busy these days and barely can afford time for blogging when I already dont get enough sleeping time. (Eye rings are getting bad to worse. So any remedies for that?)

I can say that this year's Valentine Day is the best Valentine Day I ever had and the 2nd Valentine Day with DD. Our 1st V day was quite a flop. -_-! Haha. But also the most expensive Valentine Day ever... the gifts plus dinner cost over hundreds. Damn... V day is just too commercialised!

Apparently, it's also a day that can make a gf crazy when it comes to shopping for bf's present. Jul, Ling and me walked up and down Orchard Road several times to find something suitable till our poor feet became so sore although shopping has been one of gers' forte and favourite pastime. Thinking of what to write in the cards and making it unique can be one big headache. Imagine the same words repeat for every christmas card, aniversary card and valentine day card. And not everyone is "oh-I-love-whatever-you-buy-as-long-as-it-was-from-you" kind of gf/bf, so partners have to alway keep an observant eye to see what their other half like. See, it's so so tough to be a gf/bf on V day..... and all other occasions. Ha!

Woah. I finally got my long awaited bouquet of blue roses... Thanks DD for the surprise. Also gotten the Issey Miyake perfume and a V day card. It's tough for him to pen his thoughts on the cards especially when he's never good with words. Nevertheless, appreciate his effort greatly. =)

We arranged a Valentine Dinner for 2 at Suntec's Country Manna 3 days earlier before to avoid the crazy V day queue outside almost every single restuarant. When we arrived at 820 for our dinner, we were so glad that we werent one of those starving couples out there queueing.

Dinner @ Country Manna. Yummilicious.. I love their creme of mushroom with the pastry!

Dinner @ Country Manna. Teriyaki Chicken fillet with "dunnoe-what" fish fillet and buttered Baked potato

Dinner @ Country Manna. Pork ribs with Cajun Fish and Buttered Baked Potato.

I looked as though i am eating flowers.

Love is in the air..... on the esplanade's thorny roof top. Unfortunately the camera didnt capture it very well.

Happy Valentine day '06! I guess one good thing to take with a camera phone is that ur eye rings would not be too obvious. muahaha...

Happy Valentine Day!

THE FIRST TIME

You know I won't forget
The time we shared together holding hands
And walking in the park
Sometimes we'll have to do it all again
We were so happy then
I have no regret
Can you tell from the look on my face
that I love you more today
The first time I look into your eyes
I cried
Do you remember the first time
We fell in love
You look into my eyes wiped the tears away
The first time
When we fell in love
Althought sometime has passed
I still remember just like it was yesterday
The time is moving fast
The love I have for you
Time won't ever change
I'll always feel the same
Now until the end
Memories we've shared will live forever
Deep inside my heart
I know I'll never fall again

Happy Valentine Day to everyone! =)

Eat Drink Man Woman

One thing that really bond us (my university pals) is definitely food. We all share the common interest of food and always in search of good food. I guess as long as you are Singaporean, you are always in search of good food everywhere you go. Yesterday, 6 of us (Weilun, Ling, Xin, Sotong, Lesley and me) head on to Maxwell Food Centre for Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice. This chicken rice stall is pretty famous and it's strongly recommended by our Ling who normally eat nothing but fruits, veggies (esp Brocoli) and erm.... more veggies. So if any chicken can "lure" her, that will just mean that the chicken must be damn good. Haha!

Tian Tian.. They served one of the best Chicken rice in Singapore!

Labels: , ,

Yummy... Chicken rice.. So soft and tender... *LicklicK* I am a Hainanese and I can testify that it's really good man! The chicken are so smooth and the skin are so QQ. The rice is so very much fragrant! But what they lose to my mum's chicken rice is the chicken rice chilli. =P My mum made the best chicken rice chilli in Singapore! Wahaha!

Diggin in!

21st Birthday Trust Fund

~Advanced Birthday Wishes to Yeling!!! Happy 21st !~

Haha! Now another to join me in the "Club 21" rank. I just realised how broke I am going to be.. cos there's gonna be 3 21st birthdays + Mr Fu's 23th bday (It's his birthday today.. so happy birthday too!) this month. Just on Friday, we were collecting money to buy presents then we suggested setting up a 21st Birthday Trust Fund to ease our problem of collecting money and buy prezzies. Then we might even have a biz manager to help us find jobs to "canvass" for funds too.

Cant wait for this year to be over. The hole in the pocket is getting bigger. -_-

To Lesley (who might be reading my blog), are you ready with your wishlist?
