Auntie Chin's 21st

Happy 21st to Our Dearest Auntie Chin!

It was her big day last Saturday (28 Oct). Held at the Seasons' Park Clubhouse. I must first apologize for leading the wrong direction cos i turn at the wrong junction, and in the end everyone had some bit of exercise from the "brisk walking". But when we wanted to walk back to the after the party ended, I realised that walking the correct direction wasnt any better. The place is still v v far from the YCK MRT. Hahaha..

Finally our dearest Auntie Chin turned 21. One of the last few to turn 21 among us. Remember she used to "seek refuge" from us (my clique) in JC becos her clique sometimes went missing in action, leaving her alone. Always giggling away like little school ger whenever we talked about guys or another BGR gossips or "interogate" us on our relationships. Sometimes, she sounds naggy like obasan, talked like obasan, obasan's dressing sense, so that explains why we called her Auntie Chin! Hehe..

@ Auntie Sharon's Birthday Party! Nicely decorated. There's even some "ketupat" hanging outside the glass door. (Hari Raya Puasa mahh..)

Labels: ,

Whats amused me at the party was the part whereby a video of Chin's parents wishing her a happy bday plus a few NGs. haha! How many parents would want to do that to surprise their kids like this? So sweet of her parents!

Sigh.. The only photo with the birthday ger (or auntie?) in my camera is blurred. Baahhh!!

Our table.. Ready to Eat. From left: Meimei, Meimei's bf, Dr Lim TH and Sky (my bf)

We came abit late to "chope" the KTV room or pool table at the clubhouse. But thank goodness Dr Lim brought along some entertainment for us - a set of miniature mahjong (See pics below) and a stack of poker cards. Hope Chin's parents wont think we are some kind of die-hard gamblers. Playing the miniature mahjong was really an uphill task for us. You need to have reallie nimble fingers to arrange your tiles, move your tiles and take your tiles. If you are clumsy enough, all your tiles might be exposed. haha! In the end, we got so tired of playing with such small tiles that we gave up. Playing bridge was much easier.

The Mahjong Kakis' motto: "We mahjong anywhere! anytime! but not anyhow!"

Lastly, Best Wishes to Chinchin and Stay giggly always~!

P/s: Wishing in advanced Happy Birthday to Nov Babies (Jan, Bev, My papa and mama, Weide, Ying)!

Monday Crazy Night Out!

Firstly, I need to apologize to those who dropped by my blog and find that there hasnt been any recent updates. Hasnt got the motivation and inspiration to do any blogging. Feel like doing something to my blog soon. I do get bored of things very easily...

This week has been a really awesome week for me. Have been working at home after the long Deepavali and Hari Raya Holidays. Not only that, I got to spend the night out with my dearest pals! Haha! Indeed, what a memorable night we have.

This time, the outing was planned by our dear "Mr Exxon". He planned to bring us to Handlegrill and then to Little Bali for a after-dinner chill out session. So after a few spins around the Henderson/Bukit Merah area (Mr Exxon strongly resisted the use of street directory as he felt that was an "insult".), we finally find our way to Telok Blangah area at Lock Street. We made more spins around Lock Street since Handlegrill seems to be nowhere noticeable. After many rounds, only did we realise that we were in front of Handlegrill all along and why we didnt notice is becos Handlegrill is closed! According to the parking uncle there, Handlegrill is closed on Mondays! Bahhh...

Lesson no. 1 to be learnt: Check the opening/closing hours of the restuarant.

So me suggested Greenwood Fish Market, located at Greenwood Ave (right behind NJ). Heard from the forums that this place is not bad.. famous for its fish and chips. (Yummy!)... This time Greenwood Fish Market was indeed opened but we have to wait an hour for 8 seats! Gosh... So we decided to come back again on a Tuesday for their "$1 Oysters Tues Night".. Yipee!

Lesson no. 2 to be learnt: Make reservation especially when you need so many seats. (But this time was a last min decision, what to do? sigh!)

Next, half of the people were in Mr Exxon's car to fetch Jan and another half in Kel's car, wondering where to head next. So those in Kel's car (including me) decided to go to eat Ma La Steamboat (at Beach Road, opp Concourse) as suggested by Xin before. Finally!! There's some place willing to accomodate us and is opened for business!!!

The Ma La steamboat was not bad.. quite popular and the restuarant was rather packed with Mainland Chinese (so can presume it's pretty authentic Szechuan Ma La). Their meat were in very thin slices and thus, cooking them took a shorter time. All the pig liver lovers love the pig liver, especially Mr Exxon who went gaga over the pig liver which "melt in his mouth". The pumpkin cake (fried) was served piping hot and the filling was not too sweet, perfect for those who doesnt like sweet stuffs. They also have cold dishes.. which I find worth a try. But not to be missed out, their mango pudding! Their mango puddings were in small bowls and condensed milk was added on top of the pudding. Yummy! All these for just $15. 20. ( 20 cents for a glass of iced water, free top-up) Cheap and very affordable!

After a hot and spicy meal, we wanted to head on to a chill out place. Unfortunately, the Ice shop near Burlington Sq was closed. Suddenly, someone suggested Mustafa at Little India. Haha! Mustafa is opened 24 hours. The only few times i being there were to exchange Thai Baht for my last Bangkok holiday. Little India is a place which I feel so foreign.. oh gosh! And that was the first time I visited there at 1 am!

Mustafa was packed with shopping crowds and it doesnt feel like 1 am on Syed Alwi Road. It's still bustling with activities at such hours... many foreign workers were hanging around. I guess its pretty common since its the public holiday. Once entered the mall, it felt as though you were shopping in some Malaysia hypermart. Haha! The Nike socks are cheap but limited in designs. Some of their sports apparels like jacket can be quite cheap as well. But what fascinated us the most is.. (nothing really surprising..) ... the supermarket section! Of cos, no one left empty handed with snacks like tim tam, chocolates etc for stocking up in office's drawers.

2 plus am.. after sending Jan home, it's late night movie time at Cathay Cine. We catched "Prestige"! Great show (even better than The Departed!) !! Before the show, Mr Exxon got a tummy upset and desperately needed a relieve. So the moment we reached Cine, he ran to the toilet and to his shock.. an "out-of -service" sign hung on the door of the male toilet.. damn suay. As he ran to another toilet on the next level, there's this James Bond's music playing.. muahaha.. adding on to his anxiety. (The gers were laughing very hard at the scene..dramatic..) Its not really funny unless you were there seeing what happened.

Thanks to all these funny pals I have. They made stressful studies so much lighter.. and life become so much happier with these insane fellas (including the insane me)! haha! To them: When can we have another outing like this? So fun!!!!

A Hazy Saturday

The haze on Saturday was really the worst even since it hits our small tiny island few days back. The PSI was at 140 to 150, even at night. As I was travelling back home from the newly opened VivoCity along the CTE and SLE, visibility was very poor and it felt as if the cars were running on clouds.

Dont talk to me about VivoCity. Terrible!!! So few shops were opened for business and the renovation were not fully completed yet. And worst of all, so few eateries (not even McDonalds or fast food chains) were available for business and Food Republic wasnt ready in any time soon. In the end, the overwhelming crowd spilled over to Harbourfront and long queues were formed outside the restuarants. The poor cleaners at the Harbourfront foodcourt couldnt handle the crowds + not clearing the trays and rubbish fast enough, such that the trays and rubbish are stacked up at one corner for the cleaners to slowly clean up. Whole place was a mess and disappointment. Folks, go there on a later date and VivoCity official opening is on 1st December.

Saturday Haze. Taken from room at 22nd storey of Carton Hotel. If only the haze was due to coldness and not due to the forest fire in Indo!

Family Affairs

I was at my cousin, Jenny's solemnization ceremony cum buffet lunch on Saturday, at Carlton Hotel. Finally she has decided to settle down for good with her long time boyfriend, Ryan (now cousin-in-law) after a good 12 years of courtship. Seen them together during their poly days since I was a kid, so thats really really very long. But.. the actual chinese marriage ceremony will take another 2 years later and they claimed that "they wanted to wait for me to graduate so that they can get big angbao from me." It's ridiculous! I am the younger one and I should be the one getting the angbao from them leh. hahaha!
The funniest thing was my por por (granny in Hainanese) asked my mum when would be my turn. Gosh... but I know por por meant well and hopefully she can be there to witness her next granddaughter to get married.

Finally... after 12 years of courtship?

Majority of the relatives invited were from Jenny's maternal family. The paternal family only took up one table (out of four). My aunt, uncle and mum couldnt resist asking them one very important question in their mind the moment the newly weds dropped by our table. "eh.... what's your marriage cert number? We want buy 4D before the betting centre close." Old habit... hard to change.

Buffet lunch for the relatives. Love the roses decor on the dining table.. :)

I *heart* Cupcakes!

Finally collected my cupcakes today! I have bought cupcakes for our 2nd year aniversary (also his 21st birthday). Cupcakes are currently the in-thing, replacing our usual birthday cakes etc. It's much easier to share with friends without going through the hassle of cutting the cake with a knife and of cos, the colourful frosting make the cupcakes look so much more interesting! If you are interested, below is my "cupcake directory".
CUPCAKE DIRECTORY

* www.cupcake-momma.net (One of the more value for money. Great range of fanciful designs to choose from. Cupcakes are homemade. That's where I ordered from too. :) )

* http://www.roomfordessert.com.sg/cupcakes.htm (Cute smiley design cupcakes. However less variety to choose from and a lil bit expensive.)

* www.c-cup.biz (featured on STOMP foodies club. Cupcakes looked real delicious from the net. Simpler in design but good for a cupcake sharing session with girl friends. Moderate pricing)

* www.thebakingbug.blogspot.com (Happen to run by a friend of my bf's roomie. They have v interesting decors on the cupcake to suit various themes. Looks good to me too! But seem like no pricing is available.)

* http://www.hotfuchsia.com/bakes_cup_cakes.html (Oh Gosh.. the figurines on their cupcakes are god damn cute! $3 per cupcake is average. Its also an event company, so those who need help in organising party, you might be interested too.)

*http://www.flourwerkz.com.sg/ (Not much pictures to see since the site is still yet to be completed. But looking at some of the available pics, they have very interesting designs. Can check it out few weeks later..)

Will add on soon....

Meatylicious Affairs

Another fortnightly gathering! In fact, it has been 3 weeks since we last met up for tennis (at Ling's condo) and BBQ (at Lesley's hse). This time round, our "food queen", Ling, brought us to this Vibe Restaurant at Meritus Negara Hotel for brazillian buffet. For brazillian buffet, the chefs go round the tables with the meat and their knife, cutting slices or chunks of meat for you.

Chandelier @ Vibe Restaurant.. nice eh?

Labels: , ,

The restaurant not only serves very delicious barbequed meats but also cold seafood. The mussles and oysters are fresh... There's also different sauces to go with the cold seafood. Unfortunately, I didnt have the courage to try. My weak stomach might not be able to take it. (IBS is a bitch!)

Cold Seafood buffet... Mussels, Prawns, Fresh Oysters, Crab.. (Not in the pic.. duh)

Enjoying the fresh oyster! *sluuurrrp*

Labels: , ,

There's a great variety of meat for everyone (except vegetarian of cos.) They even have char siew to suit the Singaporeans' taste and their char siew are absolutely heavenly tasty! Definitely not losing out to those hawkers out there. Another meat which I enjoyed very much is the fish. I have no idea what fish is that but texture is almost similar to that of salmon's. Juicy and the fish kinda melts in your mouth..arh....

Some of the meat served. Beef, Chicken (Extremely Juicy and nice!), Bacon wrap, Fish (2 thumbs up!), Mutton and Sausages...

The 2 guys ("Ah cek" and Ah Hao) enjoying their food. Haha..Ah Cek's hairstyle getting more funkier... very the hip lor.. Lolx.

Finally it's dessert time! They have a great variety of desserts but most popular has to be its chocolate fondue. When you stepped into the restaurant, you would notice a chocolate fountain. A wide selection of fruits, marshmallows, dried apricots are available to go with your chocolate fondue. Unfortunately, they dont have my favourite strawberries!

Yummilicious chocolate fondue!

Labels: , ,

Lesley has done a favour for everyone by going to the chocolate fountain to scoop a bowl of chocolate for us to dip. And Ling eating bread in fondue style. Haha... I think anyone who has seen us doing that will think we wanna drink up the bowl of chocolate. That's really sinful indulgence.. but we love it!

Labels: , ,

Enjoying our chocolate fondue! Having a sore throat that day... but heck.. yi1 du2 gong4 du2.. muahaha..

Labels: , ,

3 of the desserts served at the buffet. I was too slow to grab some other desserts that look equally yummilicious. Boo!

Our Fornightly Gathering @ Meritus Negara's Vibe Restaurant finally ended off with lotsa meats + gossips + greatest scandal of the year + desserts.
