Year of the Golden Piggie
Once again... the long awaited break is finally here. Chinese New Year holidays (unfortunately seems like its the only long weekend holidays for the whole of this year..).. then attend lessons for 3 days and now is my recess week. (Poor NUS and SMU peeps...) Not only did i get a moment to breathe normally, but also a chance to re-fill my bank account with the angbao money collected which has zero input since I completed IA last year.By the way, Happy Chinese New Year to everyone! *hold up two mandarin oranges* - Just imagine lah.
As usual, on the first day of Chinese New Year, the whole family (including unknown relative X and Y)would gather at my granny's flat. It had been years since we stopped doing house to house visit as everyone reckon that this arrangement would work best for everyone.
My granny house was packed to the brim. Relative X and Y's kids brought their gfs/bfs to fill up more spaces this year. The kids (my sister, younger cousin and my nephews - cousins' kids) have one room to themselves to play.. uh.. balloons? and making a din inside the room. The older kids plus the Uncles plus the Aunties had to retreat to another room to be able to talk in peace.
This year.. was a whee bit special. Firstly, there's a Japanese who visited! Actually is one of cousin's gf. I think she must have traumatised to see so many family members at one shot. Dressed very simply in a red tee and a brown trackpants.. she's very unlike the kind of Japanese ger i thought she would be. V plain features, freckled skin, rather tall, abit the chao lao (according to my parents).. and abit the chor lor from the way she hug the tin of love letters and gobble them up till everywhere was quite in a mess. >.<
But she was rather friendly and introduced herself as nami. I was tempted to speak to her in Japanese but.. haha.. to save the embarrassment, i better not. At least she can speak rather fluent English. Yah.. she had become the major attraction that day and my aunt was so darn proud that her son got a jap gf that she pull anyone to see Nami the moment they stepped into my granny house.
My youngest cousin, an irritating 6 year old brat, did the darnest thing during this year's CNY. Whatever angbao he recieved, he would tear them open in front of the person who gave him the angbao and take out the money to count. Although its extremely rude for him to do so, i think he has done it right this time.
Apparently, one of my aunt (my dad's elder sis) gave him a angbao stuffed with a dirty $2 note and he threw it back right in front of her.. going eeeeww... so little money, embarrassing her to the maximum. This auntie has a notorious reputation of giving such kind of angbao to us (or "forgot" to give) and hence, she was "blacklisted" every year by everyone. Once we recieved her angbao, we will make a mark. Haha.
But as our aunt, we respected her and nvr outright point out to her about her bad habits. So all these years, her "dirty deeds" was never exposed and all we did was to complain to our own parents. Even my parents cant help kpkb about it. $2 is already whee too little especially since we are all her nephews and nieces.. but giving us old black $2 note seems to be way too much. If so, I rather not have her $2 angbao. Whats more, she pretty rich running a business yet so tight-fisted with her money. Sigh.. perhaps, being stingy is the way to being rich?
