Donuts Madness
Yeah yeah... I know i know.. Donuts have made a comeback for so long. For about 6 months? It's kinda late to blog about donuts. Donuts have been the latest craze these days to draw long queues.. you can see aunties, kids, working adults, students at those queues, all willing to wait up to 3, 4 hours for their donuts.
The opening of Donut Factory at Raffles City Basement (The Marketplace) first started the donut craze. Soon, more and more donuts shop chains opened from the town to the shopping centre in heartland. In the past before Dunkin' Donuts disappeared from Singapore (I remembered there was one Dunkin' Donuts shop at Far East Plaza long long long ago.) , the nearest places you could satisfy your donuts craving would be the bakeries. Of cos, less fanciful flavours and much denser.Just last year, I have my long craving for Dunkin' Donuts satisfied in Bangkok. Thank goodness, no queue at all. :) 
Dunkin Donuts from Bangkok.Just few weeks back, I tried the Vinco donuts from Vivo. Thank goodness it wasnt the weekend and hence no long queue. (most impt reason cos' is Mama's treat..) I queued for about 30 mins for my first dozen of donuts bought right here in Singapore. Heh. I would say not bad. Soft and I love thier chocolate glazed donuts. ooh. How sinful..... As compared to Dunkin, vinco donuts were much softer. Softer donuts are less filling, so you can fill your stomach with more. By the way, for those who liked Dunkin Donuts, good news! It's back in Singapore. However and fortunately, there's no shop for you to go queue at. You can order online and they will deliver to delivery spots such as selected MRT stations. .jpg)
Recently, a new donut shop opened at Bukit Panjang Plaza basement, known as "Missy Donuts". Of cos, since it's so near my house, no harm queueing to give it a try.However, it was such a frustration queuing for the donuts and the slow moving queue and noisy aunties just made things worse. Firstly, i queued for almost an hour. Not that the queue was very long in the first place. Secondly, when it was finally my turn to order, all the chocolate-flavoured donuts were sold out! Damn.. Just because the customer in front of me bought 24 chocolate-flavoured donuts.. leaving me with those non-chocolate ones to try. And worse... the crew werent frying any donuts cos they were still waiting for the dough to rise. Since i insisted on waiting for the chocolate donuts, i stood aside and waited. 
Then there was 2 aunties beside me who also wanted to buy chocolate donuts started making noise.... Freak! 2 of them were complaining that they wanted to hurry get it cos they needed to go to work v soon.. and blah blah blah... and kept pestering the staff to make allowance for them. The new staffs were rather stunned and lost...by the furious ranting by the 2 aunties. Sigh. Poor girls. Yeah. The 2 aunties just get on my nerve, f**king irritating. Finally when the fresh donuts were out, one of the auntie attempted to poke at the chocolate donuts and kept asking what flavour. Oh pls.. you are not buying fish at market leh!!Opps. Sorry for digressing. Just hope that I wont turn out like those aunties when i got older. Phew.So.. in the end, we bought our dozen donuts : Kaya White Chocolate ( "Identical twin" - spotted the same one at Donut Factory), chocolate ice glazed, strawberry candy, Almond lover, chocolate rainbow, pistacho chocolate, mocha-ole... 
Yummy. Me and Sky just sinfully finished half a dozen of the donuts. Urps! hehe. Surprising, the Kaya white chocolate which doesnt seem very popular with the customers, actually tasted really good according to Sky. The chocolate ice glazed was good as well... but the crew didnt do a good job of glazing. The chocolate doesnt seem to "harden" on the donut and appear rather watery. The rest of the tasting shall be done by my brother, who wants to eat but forever too lazy to go queue.

Few weekends ago, Sky and I went shopping at Daiso and bought a pack of donut mix. Sigh. I thought we were such failures in cooking. The donut we made turned out to be rather hard. ahahaha.. it's so hard that my poor mum said that she had trouble biting and we can use these donuts to deal a blow on someone's head. haha..So Sky self-consoled himself on the failure by claiming that cos we fried the dough, thats why it became harder than usual donuts. What nonsense.

After Exams
The smell of Freedom.... the smell of North Indian Cuisine....Thurs was the last day of exams.. (actually 5 of us have our exams ended one day before and enjoyed the after-exam meal at Amoy St. ). and we have all gathered for a meal at this North Indian Restaurant at Riverwalk (situated at opposite Central, Clarke Quay). Heh.. ages since we have some nice decent meal...
This North Indian Restuarant offered buffet dinner with about 12 main dishes + Naan + a few side dishes. Many of us have not eaten North Indian Cuisine before... it's considered somewhat a special "exotic" meal we were having here besides the usual hawker fare or normal western meal we normally go for. This is definitely not my first taste of North Indian food. I tasted my first piece of naan dipped in spicy piping hot Chicken masala at the Sim Lim Square Foodcourt. From then on, I have become quite a fan of North Indian cuisine. This restaurant served cheap and affordable buffet lunch and dinner. We only paid about $15 per person for the buffet.
We'r ready to dig in! (The drink in pink is known as Strawberry Lassi. It's their Yoghurt drink but taste nothing like the usual yoghurt drink we bought from supermarket. It has a strong cheesy taste instead.)
Sambal Chicken, Tandoori Chicken and some Fish curry of sort..Take more gravy for the naan!
The naan. Comes in 3 varieties. Plain, Butter and Garlic. It was made by sticking the dough on the side of a large stone/clay pot, heated up by burning charcoal. Less oil (more healthy) and thicker than their cousin Prata. Eat it while it's hot!

Food Galore!
Time for desserts! No no no... this is not the chinese Tang Yuan. This dessert is known as the Milk Ball in Honey syrup. Not advisable to consume more than one especially for people who have low threshold for sweetness. I think it's too sweet for my liking either... tend to get sick after a few more bites of these milk balls.
If you feel the need to freshen up your breathe after the heavy meal, the waiter will offer you this plate of green or colourful grains. Grab abit and chew them in your mouth. It contains some herbs to get rid of the smell.. and urh.. you will have this " bathing foam in your mouth" kind of feeling in your mouth.Labels: Food, Friends, Fun

Merry Christmas 2006 (Part 2)
Xmas Celebration Part 2: JB Movie & Food Feast and Crazy Nite Out
This is the first time I am celebrating Xmas with my uni buddies. Looking exceptionally forward to meeting them cos they are always the most happening bunch of friends I have. hehe! Xin, Jul, Kel, Ling, Lun and me met in the afternoon for JB. Xin, being the "guest of honour", got the honour of being scolded by everyone for being late by 30 mins. Surprisingly, the causeway and customs were very clear and less crowded this weekend, so we managed to reach JB in less than 45 mins. Ling suggested catching a movie over at JB City Square since it's still too early to go for makan feast. In the end, we decided to watch Jay Chou's " The Curse of the Golden Flower" after a quickie lunch at Secret Recipe. Being the most typical Singaporean (except Lun but he has long gotten the Singaporean traits..) we are, we cant help gushing and exclaiming about the cheap movie tic. Their weekend movie tic cost RM 10.. which is about SGD 4. So much cheaper compared to our Weekend $9.50. Whats more the cinema is run by Cathay.. so quality of the cinema theatre is of the same standard as Singapore. Bloody worth it!Alrite. Let's talk about the movie. It's a fantastic arthouse film by Zhang Yimou and definitely worth catching (even though Jay Chou doesnt look very appealing in the movie *shrugs*). As Zhang Yimou likes to use very strong colours in his movie, this one (as the title mention) was extremely golden and glittery. So be aware of being blinded by the strong contrasting colour of the palace's interiors and Chow Yun Fatt/Gong Li's ultra glittery GOLDEN costumes! Argh *Cover my eyes*... but nonetheless, the backdrop was magnificent. The plot was easily understandable. Nothing too complicated... Gong Li's suppression as the Queen and Chow Yun Fat as the most heartless, callous, tyrannical King.. were all well-portrayed. Exception being Jay Chou again.. Cant help laughing at his face... and his futile attempt to squeeze out some emotions on his face. He just looked very off in his costumes and his moustache. *Cover my eyes*Oh and you cant miss all the girls' boobs, almost spilling out of their clothes. Damn gross when you see their boobs wobble as they walked. According to my mama, she thinks that the boobs ressembled some kids' buttock. muahaha.Late in the evening, we head off to our favourite place for a big feast:

What is life w/o good food man.... hehe. We had Chili Sweet Potato Leaves, Tofu on hot pan, Deep fried baby squid, Butter Crayfish, Steamed Soon Hock Fish, Beggar's Chicken, Dou miao. yummy.. all for the grand total of about 16 SGD per person.
Unfortunately, there's no purplish dragon fruit juice but no regrets! We tried Weilun's recommendation of another fruit juice which is a mixture of 3 fruits (strawberries, plum juice and cant remember the last one). It's a helluva good drink to die for!!! Hehe. That is if you are a sucker for sour stuffs. 
How can we not pose for some photos with our favourite crayfish..... Gosh.. look at the amount of meat!Back from Msia, meet up with Les and Cehao. What's next? Xmas xchange and Bowling at Safra Mount Faber!Thinking that Safra Mount Faber would not be as crowded with bowlers like Marina Sq. Wrong wrong! In the end, we were put on the waiting list.. and it was all waiting and more waiting.... while we were waiting for our turn, we took some bo-liao pics..

Merry Christmas 2006 (Part 1)
It's finally Christmas! My long awaited holiday break... after 2 hectic weeks of work and OT every night just to complete the damn project. Most things are more or less done and I can feel so much ease now. Phew. Just as I wanted to take a break, I remembered about writing Xmas card and wrapping xmas gifts! Gosh. This year was a series of celebration from 22nd to 24th December... Seems like this year Xmas was my most happening (and most expensive) ever!

Xmas Celebration Part 1: Xmas Party at Dawn's Place
This year, Dawn invited all her friends to her house for Xmas celebration and presents exchange. I was late becos of the retail convention which was held at Changi Hotel... the really far eastern part of Singapore, took quite abit of time travelling from the east to her house in the south.
When we were in secondary school, we used to have xmas celebration at her place too. And somehow, we just loved to "challenge the weather" and BBQ in the rain! haha. I remembered it was a hilarious sight when we tried to BBQ with the plastic sheet or umbrella shielding us from the rain. This time round, we were once again challenging the weather but unfortunately it rained again. We have to move all those catered food, BBQ or half-BBQ food to the function room below and eat there.
Oh yah. Before I forgot.. Welcome back, Shan! hehe. She's finally back from far far away Norway. She deserved a great thanks for getting us all those goodies from Norway and of cos, burning me her 5GB worth of pictures from Norway (when I was just kidding with her. Opps!)

Be There or Be Square
The day is finally here. A day which my dear table-mate, M, has always been trying very hard to remind me by sticking yellow post'it note on my monitor everyday."Dinner with Prof Y! This Sunday"And I stick the note behind the LCD screen instead. Bahh stop reminding me! Haha. Especially when she herself got trouble remembering it too. The only thing we both can remember is what he said in the emails, "Marketing girls, can you 2 plan a nice gathering for me and the 4 interns (M, Pau, SiX & me)?"Marketing girls!!! How degrading it sounds! Both M and me were dying to strangle him for calling us that. But being the usually nice and angelic girls we have always been, we decided to forgive (but nv forget) and plan the gathering.In his last email to us, "Marina Square. Lovely place. Be there or be square. :)"So we were joking if we should turn up in boxes.. :P alright. That's spastic.In order not to be late for this dinner, I stepped out of the house 1 hour earlier in case of jams at Orchard. Surprisingly, traffic was extremely smooth and I reached town in 30 mins time. Meet up with Pau and M at Marina Square's Puma Shop 30 mins before the official time. (M didnt tell SiX that we were already here). M was nagging at Pau for her revealing top and short skirt, as this might give the prof "a wrong idea". Haha!We 3 were standing there wondering where should we wait for prof Y. Just as we about to drop him a message, Pau let out a squeak which startled both of us, our dear prof Y was right behind us! Then he said, "oh hi gers, I was wondering how to contact you. :)"So we ended up at Waraku Japanese Restuarant. We took quite some time looking at the menu while waiting for SiX to turn up. We ordered drinks first. 3 of us have innocent iced green tea and plain water while... he drank Asashi Beer. SiX arrived shortly and we let her had the most honourable seat. :P hehe. The 3 of us were practising caution while ordering as..We have no idea who's paying. Dutch, He treats us, We treat him? I ordered a small yakiniku don. He was shocked and said I should order more. So he ordered a big plate of sushi. I was poking M's thighs under the table, trying to tell her "who's paying?!". The food came.. and yum yum.. From the dinner, we found out:1) Prof Y has a driving licence (A US licence converted to Singapore licence). But he has second thoughts about getting a car cos its v expensive. Plus he is living within the campus. 2) His campus apartment has 3 rooms and he is not living with anyone else.3) He is from HeilongJiang. 4) CH4242 (si le si le) 's first part would be covered by XR, then second part by him. and he claimed is not difficult. Yahrite...!5) He dont encourage doing research cos it's a tough route.It's payment time. And hehe.. he flashed out his credit card in time. He told us that he used to have quite a lot of credit cards but he had cut up most of them and left only one. Hmmm... But *phew* great relief still! His treat! hehe. :P $150 meal.... Monday Crazy Night Out!
Firstly, I need to apologize to those who dropped by my blog and find that there hasnt been any recent updates. Hasnt got the motivation and inspiration to do any blogging. Feel like doing something to my blog soon. I do get bored of things very easily...This week has been a really awesome week for me. Have been working at home after the long Deepavali and Hari Raya Holidays. Not only that, I got to spend the night out with my dearest pals! Haha! Indeed, what a memorable night we have. This time, the outing was planned by our dear "Mr Exxon". He planned to bring us to Handlegrill and then to Little Bali for a after-dinner chill out session. So after a few spins around the Henderson/Bukit Merah area (Mr Exxon strongly resisted the use of street directory as he felt that was an "insult".), we finally find our way to Telok Blangah area at Lock Street. We made more spins around Lock Street since Handlegrill seems to be nowhere noticeable. After many rounds, only did we realise that we were in front of Handlegrill all along and why we didnt notice is becos Handlegrill is closed! According to the parking uncle there, Handlegrill is closed on Mondays! Bahhh... Lesson no. 1 to be learnt: Check the opening/closing hours of the restuarant. So me suggested Greenwood Fish Market, located at Greenwood Ave (right behind NJ). Heard from the forums that this place is not bad.. famous for its fish and chips. (Yummy!)... This time Greenwood Fish Market was indeed opened but we have to wait an hour for 8 seats! Gosh... So we decided to come back again on a Tuesday for their "$1 Oysters Tues Night".. Yipee!Lesson no. 2 to be learnt: Make reservation especially when you need so many seats. (But this time was a last min decision, what to do? sigh!)Next, half of the people were in Mr Exxon's car to fetch Jan and another half in Kel's car, wondering where to head next. So those in Kel's car (including me) decided to go to eat Ma La Steamboat (at Beach Road, opp Concourse) as suggested by Xin before. Finally!! There's some place willing to accomodate us and is opened for business!!! The Ma La steamboat was not bad.. quite popular and the restuarant was rather packed with Mainland Chinese (so can presume it's pretty authentic Szechuan Ma La). Their meat were in very thin slices and thus, cooking them took a shorter time. All the pig liver lovers love the pig liver, especially Mr Exxon who went gaga over the pig liver which "melt in his mouth". The pumpkin cake (fried) was served piping hot and the filling was not too sweet, perfect for those who doesnt like sweet stuffs. They also have cold dishes.. which I find worth a try. But not to be missed out, their mango pudding! Their mango puddings were in small bowls and condensed milk was added on top of the pudding. Yummy! All these for just $15. 20. ( 20 cents for a glass of iced water, free top-up) Cheap and very affordable!After a hot and spicy meal, we wanted to head on to a chill out place. Unfortunately, the Ice shop near Burlington Sq was closed. Suddenly, someone suggested Mustafa at Little India. Haha! Mustafa is opened 24 hours. The only few times i being there were to exchange Thai Baht for my last Bangkok holiday. Little India is a place which I feel so foreign.. oh gosh! And that was the first time I visited there at 1 am! Mustafa was packed with shopping crowds and it doesnt feel like 1 am on Syed Alwi Road. It's still bustling with activities at such hours... many foreign workers were hanging around. I guess its pretty common since its the public holiday. Once entered the mall, it felt as though you were shopping in some Malaysia hypermart. Haha! The Nike socks are cheap but limited in designs. Some of their sports apparels like jacket can be quite cheap as well. But what fascinated us the most is.. (nothing really surprising..) ... the supermarket section! Of cos, no one left empty handed with snacks like tim tam, chocolates etc for stocking up in office's drawers. 2 plus am.. after sending Jan home, it's late night movie time at Cathay Cine. We catched "Prestige"! Great show (even better than The Departed!) !! Before the show, Mr Exxon got a tummy upset and desperately needed a relieve. So the moment we reached Cine, he ran to the toilet and to his shock.. an "out-of -service" sign hung on the door of the male toilet.. damn suay. As he ran to another toilet on the next level, there's this James Bond's music playing.. muahaha.. adding on to his anxiety. (The gers were laughing very hard at the scene..dramatic..) Its not really funny unless you were there seeing what happened. Thanks to all these funny pals I have. They made stressful studies so much lighter.. and life become so much happier with these insane fellas (including the insane me)! haha! To them: When can we have another outing like this? So fun!!!!

I *heart* Cupcakes!
Finally collected my cupcakes today! I have bought cupcakes for our 2nd year aniversary (also his 21st birthday). Cupcakes are currently the in-thing, replacing our usual birthday cakes etc. It's much easier to share with friends without going through the hassle of cutting the cake with a knife and of cos, the colourful frosting make the cupcakes look so much more interesting! Meatylicious Affairs
Another fortnightly gathering! In fact, it has been 3 weeks since we last met up for tennis (at Ling's condo) and BBQ (at Lesley's hse). This time round, our "food queen", Ling, brought us to this Vibe Restaurant at Meritus Negara Hotel for brazillian buffet. For brazillian buffet, the chefs go round the tables with the meat and their knife, cutting slices or chunks of meat for you.

The restaurant not only serves very delicious barbequed meats but also cold seafood. The mussles and oysters are fresh... There's also different sauces to go with the cold seafood. Unfortunately, I didnt have the courage to try. My weak stomach might not be able to take it. (IBS is a bitch!)

There's a great variety of meat for everyone (except vegetarian of cos.) They even have char siew to suit the Singaporeans' taste and their char siew are absolutely heavenly tasty! Definitely not losing out to those hawkers out there. Another meat which I enjoyed very much is the fish. I have no idea what fish is that but texture is almost similar to that of salmon's. Juicy and the fish kinda melts in your mouth..arh....

Finally it's dessert time! They have a great variety of desserts but most popular has to be its chocolate fondue. When you stepped into the restaurant, you would notice a chocolate fountain. A wide selection of fruits, marshmallows, dried apricots are available to go with your chocolate fondue. Unfortunately, they dont have my favourite strawberries!
